Can't Write a Letter notes & lyrics

(Monica Grabin - 1978)
This is about my husband, Bill. It was written when I was on the road in Canada in a rock and roll band, and he was home in Massachusetts. I’d always pin his picture on the wall of every new hotel room I inhabited, and wish he wasn’t so far away. That was over 30 years ago and we’re still doin’ all right.

LYRICS
I'd like to tell you that I'm sorry,
For all the little things I've done.
I know you'd tell me not to worry,
But it's not easy when I'm gone.

Lazy afternoon, I just want to be with you,
But too many miles are in between.
Can't write a letter that would tell you,
Just how crazy our lives seem.

I got your card today, it cheered me,
But it didn't stop the pain.
When all I'm wanting is you near me,
And I had to turn it off again.

Lie awake at night, I've lost my appetite,
But I know you could make it right, so easily.
I just keep holding on, 'til once more I'm in your arms,
And all of those miles will wash away.

Can't write a letter that would tell you,
How my love grows day by day.
